The no-code AI agent builder

You describe the job in plain language and the agent comes back built — people call this a no code AI agent builder, and changing the agent works the same way you created it. What decides whether it is any good is how clearly you brief it, so it is worth doing these five things in order:

• Write the job down as if for a new hire – What starts it, what has to be checked, what the decision depends on, what happens at the end. "When a request comes in, check it against inventory, approve anything under $500, send the rest to me" is a brief. "Handle requests" is not.

• Widen the boundary as it earns it – Start with the agent drafting and a human sending. Move to the agent acting alone on the cases it has never got wrong.

The first working version takes minutes. The five steps above are where the real time goes, and they are what you would spend on a new colleague doing the same job.

The best AI agent builder is the one that lets the agent finish the job — not just describe it — inside the systems your work already lives in. Most tools in this category are good at the conversation and differ enormously at the part that matters, so these are the questions worth asking before you pick one:

• What can it reach? – Which records, files and tools the agent can actually see. An agent is defined by its access more than by its prompt, and a demo on sample data tells you nothing about this.
• What can it change? – Reading is table stakes. Writing back — creating a record, updating a status, booking a slot — is where the work happens, and plenty of tools stop short of it.
• Where do the limits live? – In the prompt, or enforced at the data layer? A limit written in a prompt holds until the model has a bad day. A limit enforced by permissions holds regardless.
• What do you get at the end? – A diagram, a chat window, or something you can actually give to other people, with logins and a URL.
• How fast can you correct it? – The first version is never right. What matters is whether fixing a wrong decision takes a sentence or a support ticket.

• Enforcement at the data layer, not in the prompt – Row-level permissions decide what the agent can see and change. Because they are enforced where the data lives, the limit holds whether or not the agent understands it.
• An explicit human checkpoint – Say which decisions it makes alone and which it may only prepare. Drafting a reply for a person to send is a different risk from sending it.
• A private trial run – Keep the app workspace-only while you compare the agent's decisions with your own on work you have already done. Publish when the two match.

Start it narrower than you think you need. Widening a boundary once the agent has earned it is a one-sentence change; recovering from a wrong bulk update is not.
